Fat Transfer or Fat Grafting to the breasts is a safe and reliable procedure when done by NYC Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Leonard Grossman. Just like Liposuction of the breasts can result in smaller breasts, adding your own (autologous) fat results in larger, natural breasts.
The procedure of fat transfer in breast augmentation consists of two parts.
1. Using a syringe or specialized vacuum pump and a small cannula (needle-like instrument), fat is gently harvested or liposuctioned from the areas where it is not wanted: saddle bags, inner thighs, knees, flanks, back, waistline, abdomen, arms, etc. (This will in turn improve the proportions of your body where the fat is removed)
2. These living fat cells, which have a high content of adult fat-derived cells, are then washed, centrifuged, and chemically stabilized for transfer. Live fat and cells derived from fat mixture is then injected into the breasts scarlessly with a specially modified needle.
Once in the breasts, these fat and cells derived from fat will survive permanently and live just like they did in the area from where they were harvested.
As a patient, you should expect an increase in the breast size of approximately one to one and a half cup sizes or double the size of your current breast from a single procedure of fat-derived cells transfer. Should a greater increase in the breast size be desired, the same procedure may need to be repeated.
If you desire to have an increase in two cup sizes or greater performed in a single procedure, then breast augmentation using saline, or silicone breast implants should be considered.
When performed by Dr. Grossman, the removal and harvest of fat is so gentle, that most of our patients don’t even bruise, they also rarely have discomfort for which anything more than Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen is required. No, you will not need any massages after your Breast Augmentation with Fat with Dr. Grossman. Massages are ineffective and painful after any kind of surgery. Lymphatic channels will reestablish their normal function in approximately 3 months on their own. Clinics that make you have massages only make more money on you while not making your recovery easier.
Will I need compression garments after my Breast Augmentation with Fat?
No, you will not need any compression garments, fajas or girdles when your surgery is done by Dr. Grossman. You will wear your regular clothing just like before the procedure.
Can Breast Augmentation with Fat be done with an Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction device or Laser liposuction?
The simple answer is NO. Contrary to on-line misinformation, Ultrasound and Lasers destroy the viability of fat cells making them unsuitable for fat grafting. Only traditional or power assist liposuction can be used for successful BBL.
The patient must know that when shopping for the best deal in town keep these facts in mind and beware that having the least expensive breast surgeon operate on you may eventually cost you so much more in the future. Corrective procedures are much more expensive than the first time well performed breast surgery when performed by someone like Dr. Grossman. Make sure your surgeon has hundreds of procedures behind his/her belt before attempting this procedure on you.
